Council Offices Demolished

Demolition is well underway, with the former town council offices giving way to a brand new two story building which will house improved council offices and a hirable hall.

Is this every boys dream? I wanted to have a go on the digger and crush the old council office but they wouldn’t let me. In fact I am not allowed on site now without steel capped boots, a Hard Hat and high vis jacket and when you see the demolition work that is going on it is not surprising. There is some big boys toys in action as the memories of the old priory are loaded into massive skips and taken away.  I have to say though the skill of the driver was impressive as he started to take the old council offices down he was able to separate wood from steel and insulation while he was taking the building apart and put into separate piles. I could have stayed and watch for hours.

Where the council offices was is going to be another bookable room and it is now that you can start to visualise the view from this room out over the deck to the river and Regatta Meadow. But of course the deck is no longer there as that was one of the first things to go. Inside the toilets have gone, the offices and reception have gone, the kitchen and bar have gone and now the contractor is putting the pressure on me to determine where I want the channel to go for one of the most important things in the new Priory…….. the beer lines.
